Invitation to the European Championship for Icelandic Horses on Ice IceHorse2008

Competitions on Ice It‘s a long standing tradition in Iceland to have riding competitions on frozen lakes and rivers. Under the patronage of the mayor of the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Ms. Monika Thiemen, and His Excellency the Ambassador of Iceland, Ólafur Davídsson, the European Championship for Icelandic Horses on Ice will take place for the third time in Berlin on Saturday, March 3, 2008.
Thrilling preliminaries during the day and floodlit finals accompanied by presentations full of fantasy during the night guarantee a unique event throughout the day. We would be happy to welcome you as spectator or rider at the Skating Stadium Berlin Wilmersdorf. Place Horst-Dohm-Skating-Stadium, Fritz-Wildung-Straße 9, 14199 Berlin, Germany Located in the borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, the stadium can be easily reached from Berlin‘s city highway A100 (exit Hohenzollerndamm). The next local train station is S-Bhf Hohenzollerndamm, and famous Kufürstendamm is within walking distance, too.
Track 400 m speed skating track. Stadium‘s capacity: 5.000 spectators (1.500 roofed seats).
Time Saturday, March 3rd, 2008. Preliminary time schedule: Training starts at 07.00 hours, preliminary rounds at 10:00 hours. Evening show with finals to begin at 19:00 hours.
Training Exact training schedule will be announced early. All horses must be shown in during training time to get clearance for competition.

Entries Must be sent before Friday, February 21st,2008, to: Carsten Eckert, Heerbrink 7, 31079 Almstedt, Germany. Note: Please send reservation requests for tent boxes together with your entry form. Boxes must also be paid for at the time of entry.
Entry fee 30,- € per test
Accomodation of horses Horses can be accomodated in tent boxes directly at the stadium. Costs will amount to 110,- € per box occupied with one horse, or 140,- € per box occupied with two horses. This includes cleaning, feed (silage / hay), and straw. Box tents will be under surveillance by security staff.
Possibilities to keep horses on trailers or in your own mobile boxes are limited since the adjoining public premises are not available to us. Please state on your application form if you wish to keep your horses on your trailer resp. in mobile boxes. Costs will amount to 55,- € per horse, including cleaning, feed and straw. This area will not be guarded by security staff!
Tests All tests will have a preliminary and a final round. 1. Ice Tölt: 1. Slow, calm tempo tölt, 2. Any tempo tölt 2. Fourgait: 1. Slow tempo tölt, 2. Working to medium tempo trot, 3. Any tempo tölt 3. Fivegait: 1. Working to medium tempo tölt, 2. Working to medium tempo trot, 3. Flying pace (two long sides) 4. Speedpace: approx. 100 meters
Preliminary rounds will be ridden in groups of approx. six combinations. The best 8 combinations in each test advance to the final round.
Explanations: Fivegait: Transition to flying pace is not to happen from canter. Every rider has two long sides to show flying pace. Tests 1, 2, and 3 are ridden on one reign. In the finals, the majority of riders chooses reign according to FIPO procedures. Speedpace: Transition to flying pace is not to happen from canter. The preliminary wil be ridden against the clock. During final round, riders will start in pairs of two against each other (sudden death).
Prizes Ribbons, prize money, and non-cash prizes. Prize money for each test is 1,500 €. First prize is 600 €, Second prize is 400 €, Third prize is 200 €, Fourth prize is 100 €, positions 5 to 8 will be awarded 50,- € each.
Eligible horses and riders Test 1: minimum score of 6.50 in T1, T2, or T3 Tests 2 and 3: minimum score of 6.20 in V1, V2, F1, or F2 Test 4: less than 8.5 seconds in P2, less than 23.5 seconds in P1, less than 15.5 seconds in P3, or a minimum score of 7.00 in PP1. Alternative qualification for all tests is possible through a Gæðingakeppni score of at least 8.30 (A- or B-flokkur), or through a ridden abilities score of at least 8.20 in a FIZO breeding judgement. Qualification points must have been reached on a WorldRanking event, a regional or national championship or an official Gæðingakeppni competition. The organizer retains the right to alter qualification points. Minimum age for all riders is 16 years. Underage riders must provide a written and signed permission and liability exclusion by a legal custodian. Members of national teams in FEIF member countries and riders who have been directly invited by the organizer are not required to present qualification points.
Equipment According to FIPO rules. Shoeing suitable for riding on ice. Additional information on ice shoeing (and the required farrier‘s equipment) is available from Carsten Eckert. Please bring your own starting numbers.
Travel advise Starting on January 1, many European cities will issue vehicle restrictions in environmental green zones. The stadium is located in such a green zone, therefore all vehicles are required to have an environmental badge. Driving in green zones without this badge is subject to fines. Please see www.umwelt-plakette.de for detailed information how to obtain the environmental badge.
Liability Riders accept complete liability for themselves and their horses in the sense of sections 831 and 833 of Germany‘s civil code (BGB). Participation in the event is at your own risk. All horses must have liability insurance and must be properly vaccinated according to current IPO rules. Organizers, host, and judges exclude any liability if possible according to law.
